Cortical spreading depression is a complex phenomena that involves dramatic fluctuations in neural and vascular function and considered one of the many proposed underlying mechanisms for Migraine with Aura. The visual aura experienced is often described as an explosive collage of light rays and colors, like looking through a kaleidoscope.
